In addition to improving endurance performance, BCAAs prevent muscle loss during ultra-endurance exercise. For example, it was found that trained athletes who performed a 24-hour-long exercise trial that included 12 cycles of running, cycling, and kayaking experienced significant muscle protein degradation and had evidence of metabolic stress linked with muscle damage. There was a pronounced drop in plasma levels of BCAAs over the exercise trial, which is linked with muscle loss.

Book Review: The Low Carb Dietitian’s Guide to Health and Beauty

I just finished reading  The Low Carb Dietitian’s Guide to Health and Beauty , written by Franziska Spritzler, RD, CDE, and published in January 2015. CDE, but the way, means Certified Diabetes Educator. Per Amazon’s rating system, I give it five stars (I love it). It’s not written specifically for women with diabetes, but the included recipes are quite consistent with a healthy diabetic diet. Since the author provides the carbohydrate grams with her recipes, you can use them with my  Low-Carb Mediterranean Diet  and Ketogenic Mediterranean Diet .

Option for competitors: If you're nearing a contest, try adding 20 minutes of steady state cardio at the end. If you do this, make the cardio its own workout since it'll last around 40 minutes. If you're doing it without the steady state cardio, you can do it at the end of a regular training session or in a separate workout.

6 Mistakes Women Are Still Making in the Gym | T Nation

Many women, on the other hand, focus mostly on movements that have such high skill and/or balance requirements that they can't be loaded sufficiently to improve strength or hypertrophy to any significant degree. Take for example when women simultaneously lunge and overhead press. If the dumbbells are light enough to overhead press, they won't be heavy enough to create a challenge during the lunge portion of the exercise.
