Throwing up is either a digestive issue or an excess of systemic/blood lactic acid. When you eat a big meal, around 70% of your blood flow is directed to the digestive system. When you're training, blood is diverted mostly to the working muscle and only around 20-30% makes it to the digestive system. Not to mention that the cortisol released from the workout can also inhibit digestion. If the training is demanding enough this can lead to nausea, gas, bloating and vomiting. Excess lactic acid (systemic, not concentrated in one muscle) can have the same effect.

Whether you decide to use a moderate grip or more extreme grip, hand placement shouldn't cause deviations in technique or neuromuscular recruitment. It's also important to point out that although many advanced lifters will strategically alter their body mechanics in conjunction with grip adjustments as a means for targeting different areas of a muscle group, this training philosophy can lead to dysfunctional movement patterns, inflammation, and injury.

Psychologists at the University of Nottingham in Malaysia have found that “beauty smoothies” made of carrots, orange juice, and other sources of carotenoids can make you more attractive. In the experiment, the test group that drank a daily carotenoid-lad- en beverage began to exhibit more orange and red tones in their skin. (One reason why carotenoids are a prized antioxidant is that they accumulate in the skin, where they also help slow aging.) Previous research has drawn the correlation that people with high levels of carotenoids in their skin are generally considered more attractive that those with lower levels. Scientist aren’t sure if the transformative powers of the carrot smoothie come from the color it exhibits or the anti-aging influence it has on the skin. We ask: Does it really matter?


Training the pectoralis major and minor, also known as the chest, is a common priority for both recreational and competitive lifters. When you’re young, it’s quite common for the bench press to be the predominant lift that is used for chest development. If you have advantageous biomechanics (big chest, short arms), bench pressing can seem incomparable for chest development.

How to Personalize Your Workout

While you shouldn’t stop doing pulling exercises, you should be strategic about how to increase your strength. Farmer’s walks and suitcase carries will be the best to way build your grip strength in a way with minimized risk. Just hold the weight as long as you can, and increase the load as a way to build your strength.

The results of research published in the journal Public Library of Science claim that television is actually adding fat to your belly. In men, the number of hours spent watching television was significantly correlated with higher body-fat mass index, percentage of body fat, subcutaneous fat, and visceral fat. More disturbingly, it was also associated with the beginnings of atherosclerosis. Everyone deserves some passive entertainment after a long day of work, gym, and family, but this research seems to show that when it comes to TV, less is more. Curiously, this effect only applies to men, as women in the experiment exhibited a similar association between television and body fat, but the connection was much weaker. We assume that the nausea induced by episodes of The Bachelorslowed down the weight gain for women.
