Sagittarius Horoscope for Saturday, October 11, 2014

Sunday, October 12, 2014 - You want to be completely objective when considering your alternatives today. It doesn't matter if you already have a destination in mind and a plan to get there; people can still throw you off course with all their wild and crazy ideas anyhow. You might discover that your goals are not as set in stone as you thought. But don't give up on your original agenda; it may be more relevant than you think. Entertain all possibilities for a while longer before narrowing your field of options.

17-Minute Quads

You’ll finish the workout with three, minute-long squat holds. These can be done against a wall if you’re really trashed but you should strive to perform them in open space. For your first go, get your thighs below parallel and hold. If you fail before 60 seconds, stand up, shake it out and get right back to it. Your goal should be to hold for the full 60. On each subsequent set, it’s permissible to hold your squat a little higher. Trust us…that quarter squat on your last set will feel like you’re holding 400 pounds across your back.

10 Whiskeys Every Man Should Know

Everyone is drinking whiskey these days, but not everyone seems to know what it is. Most of us know that Scotch is, indeed, a whiskey. And some of us know that bourbon doesn’t have to be made in Kentucky. Beyond that, there’s confusion. What used to be made by a few mist-wrapped distilleries in Scotland and Kentucky is now made all over the world, from Taiwan to San Diego; what used to be distilled from a few familiar grains is now made with everything from amaranth to quinoa. Don’t let the diversity scare you: If you want to become a whiskey master, start with these basics.

Morning Muscle Meal: Bacon and Egg Breakfast Sandwich

Scrambling eggs in the microwave means no caked-on-egg skillet to clean, but be careful of overcooking. In the microwave, eggs can very quickly go from just right to rubbery. Canadian bacon is cut from the pork loin, so it has about half the fat of traditional bacon. If you prefer, you can swap out the English muffin for toasted sprouted bread. If you don't mind some kick, Franks's RedHot adds negligible calories and can make you feel full faster.

The T-Shirt Workout

HOW IT WORKS This program devotes one day to your shoulders and lats and another to your chest and arms. In the first workout you’re making your upper body wider, and in the next you’re making it denser from front to back. You may recognize some moves from CrossFit workouts (snatch grip high pull), some from the bodybuilding world (dumbbell flye), and others you’ve seen in pictures with a “no” symbol over them, indicating danger (behind-the-neck press)—it just means we’ve pulled from all the training wisdom available, both new and old school, to get the best results possible. (And don’t worry about behind-the-neck-pressing—as long as your form is on point, you’ll be fine.)

The Treat Sheet

If these cravings have you feeling like a failure, we have good news for you. Not only is this common, but research shows it may be good for your dieting results. Researchers from the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (Boston) found that 95% of subjects who were placed on a low-calorie diet experienced food cravings during the study. Those who lost the most fat while dieting were also those who craved foods that are higher in calories and fat. (They also gave in to these cravings less frequently than those who lost less weight. No surprise there.)

The Best Anytime Workout

Set a timer for however long you have—even if you’ve got only 10 minutes.  Complete as many reps as you can of each exercise, and count them. Stop a set when your form breaks down, and rest as needed. Make note of your total number of reps for the workout. Each time you repeat the workout with the same time period, try to complete more total reps. For example, if you worked out 10 minutes on Monday and then 25 minutes on Wednesday but could manage only 10 minutes again on Friday, try to get more work done in Friday’s session than in Monday’s. Try to perform the workout four to six times per week.

8 Ways to Burn More Fat

Trainer Q&A: Can Kinesiology Tape Help Heal Workout Injuries?

How does kinesiology tape benefit injury rehabilitation? Kinesiology tape can help with fluid movement because the elastic recoil of the tape ‘lifts’ the skin, which increases the space underneath to allow for lymphatic drainage. Your lymph system is a systemic whole-body system that helps with moving fluids into and out of the area. The lymphatic system sits just under the skin so when you put the tape on, it helps to clear an area of swelling. Increased lymphatic drainage helps with tissue healing which helps speed up the healing process. You can wear it in the shower and while sleeping so it's providing therapeutic treatment 24/7.

8 Ways to Get In a Workout on a Busy Schedule

Can’t miss your favorite TV show or the big game? Instead of sitting on the couch with your favorite snack food, mix up a tasty branch chain amino acid blend and exercise during commercials. Use bands, dumbbells or your body weight and select a quick exercise circuit. Every commercial, do as many reps or exercises as you can. In a 30-minute sitcom, you can get up to 9-minutes of exercise in.

24
Old School Delt Development

Keeping the waist slim and tight to offset shoulder development is also tricky because you can work your abs so hard, (like I did mine) that they get thick and overshadow the width of the shoulders. One exercise I tell everyone NOT to do is side bends with weights. This also widens the oblique muscles around the waist and even though you think you’re reducing it, it’s actually getting bigger. However, wide shoulders can be achieved if approached properly. Years ago it was thought that the behind-the-neck press was the best way to develop the delts. We all did them and there was a guy in our gym that could actually do them with 315 lbs. That’s really strong, and he was thick and big, but his waist was twice the width of his shoulders. Over the years it was discovered that this exercise caused a lot of shoulder problems and arthritis because of its unnatural movement. At this point in my life I can’t even get my left arm back to grab the bar from doing these for so long. Many of us found alternative exercises to do in place of it though, such as the standing press with a bar, alternate dumbbell presses and Smith machine presses.

Double-Duty Supplement

Since weight training also has been shown to increase GH levels, scientists from Baylor University (Waco, Texas) designed an experiment to test the combination of melatonin supplements and weight training on GH levels. Sixty active, college-aged men and women were assigned to receive either melatonin or a placebo one hour before a workout. Blood tests were taken a few times before the exercise session. The subjects performed seven sets of high-intensity leg presses to stimulate natural GH release. The results showed that even before the workout began, the men receiving the high-dose melatonin supplement (5 mg) had elevated GH levels. After the training session, men in the low-dose (0.5 mg) and the high-dose (5 mg) groups had elevated GH levels when compared to the placebo group.

27
Leg Training for Weak Knees

A good first step is to get a practitioner to assess the damage if your knees are in a constant state of pain. Ensure that the issue isn’t too serious. Tendonitis, Patella Femoral Syndrome, and other chronic injuries like it are definitely things that can be curbed through proper training and tissue quality methods. The choices you make in the gym on leg day will be make-or-break factors for pesky knees. And don’t worry – I’m here to help.

28
Coaches Should Ditch These Nonsense Training Beliefs

My other problem is with the subject of work capacity. The author suggests that work capacity can be developed in a rather short time right before the season starts. So he states that we should do nothing for the most part except lift weights and use a couple weeks before the season starts to “get in shape.” I think we could easily come up with the correct answer when we consider who would ultimately have a better chance of winning a game—the team who actually trained to have a specific work capacity toward the demands of the sport or the team who may be marginally better at lifting weights in general exercises but can’t last more than a series. If all things are equal from a standpoint of skill and talent, I would take the former over the latter any day. Why? Because I’ve seen it firsthand over the past eight years while actually coaching instead of shooting my mouth off on message boards or articles for other non-coaches to read and applaud. In fact, in our season opener and a pivotal district game this year, we played a team that had bigger and possibly stronger linemen and linebackers.
