Felice Herrig Rocks Her Physique Outside the Octagon

All the work and promotion that goes with 13 years of MMA fighting can take its toll. Felice Herrig has been working her way back from stress and anxiety, which have impacted her performance in the cage. While the 31-year-old was climbing the ranks over the past few years -- entering the top ten -- Herrig's team noticed that her energy levels were not quite at the same level as earlier in her career.

But you're not a chump, and this is no walk in the park—this is your gym time, dammit, and there's no way you're skipping your daily shred session just because some knuckleheads are taking up all the gear. So instead of waiting an eternity for the bench to free up, find a spare corner of the gym and do these bodyweight moves instead. With these in your arsenal, you'll watch the fat melt off your midsection and that muscle pop through your shirt in no time.

3 Steps to Rope Skipping Like a Pro

The greatest difficulty that beginners tend to have with learning to jump rope is syncing the rhythm of the rope rotation with their jump. I see people who just jump at random and wherever the rope is doesn’t change anything. That never turns out well. Keep it as simple as possible at first and you will have fewer variables that can hamper your coordination. The following steps can take a beginner with absolutely zero rope experience and turn them into someone with a basic grasp of timing and rhythm. The good news is that once you pick that up, you can progress very quickly into more challenging variations and longer sessions.

Get Stronger: 7 Reasons to Never Neglect Squats

Squatting variations like barbell back squats and front squats are a favorite among powerlifters, bodybuilders and other athletes for one reason: they work. When it Pays to Lie

Men who win multiple Mr. Olympia titles often make a lift their own. For Dorian Yates, it was underhand barbell rows. With his parking-lot lunges, Ronnie Coleman has turned an activity previously associated with aerobicizing into a supreme test of strength and endurance. Arnold actually popularized more than one lift, including the press named after him, but lying side laterals is the only one to fall into obscurity, and for no reason other than indolence. You don’t need a parking lot or a barbell loaded with plates. You can do them in most gyms, even most home gyms. What’s more, they stress side deltoids in a manner no other lift can. It’s time to resurrect the lying side lateral.

The Case for Cheating

One reason you stop burning body fat while dieting is that metabolic rate (the amount of calories you burn naturally) begins to stall. Cheat meals can help keep your metabolic rate elevated, allowing you to burn more body fat over the long haul. After intense exercise, digestion is one of the ways our body expends the most calories. - FLEX

5 Sources of Vegan Protein

A quarter cup of uncooked quinoa (which fluffs up to about a cup when cooked) has 170 calories, 2.5 grams of fat and seven grams of protein. Plus, "this is the only grain known to be a complete protein—containing all essential amino acids," Kaufman explains. While beans need to be combined with other foods to become a perfect protein, quinoa actually contains all the nutrients you would get from eating meat.

Born Fitness Recipes: Banana Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Pancakes

I don’t eat breakfast very often, but breakfast foods are one of my favorite things to eat. From eggs and chicken sausage, to waffles, pancakes, and french toast, it’s hard to go wrong with any morning meal favorite. The problem? Many carb loaded breakfast foods clock in at thousands of calories, and there’s nothing about them that would even come close to qualifying at healthy.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6742992

Sixteen athletes (11 men, 5 women), averaging 21 years of age, were studied before and after four weeks of daily exhaustive exercise (six days/week) during an endurance training course. In comparing blood chemistries before and after training, concentrations of blood glucose, total serum lipids, serum triglycerides, and serum cholesterol were significantly reduced; serum free fatty acid ( SFFA ) level was significantly increased; and serum protein and serum phospholipid concentrations remained unchanged. It was concluded that exhaustive training produces reduced blood glucose (but not clinically significant hypoglycemia) with increased fat utilization as a result of depletion of carbohydrate storage and that such training reduces the resting levels of serum cholesterol and serum triglycerides. The increased hematocrit, serum Na+, and serum K+ concentrations observed were presumably due to plasma water loss from excessive perspiration. Concentrations of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) were increased significantly; serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) and serum creatinine showed no significant changes.

Get Big With The Big Three!

This is an intense hypertrophy program, so don't let it go to waste by backing it up with a crappy diet. If you are running this, your goal should be to build muscle. Eat like you mean it! If you don't, you are needlessly beating yourself up and will have nothing to show for it. Experienced lifters know that recovery is as important as time in the gym.
