Your waist can be as small as can be, but without a killer pair of delts it will just not look right. Sadly, great or even good shoulders are rare these days and it is not due to lack of effort. I will do some cardio that is low intensity for a longer duration (20 to 30 minutes) on occasion for overall general health and to get blood moving, especially in the off-season. But normally I stick to sport-specific conditioning. Typical strongman events last only 60 to 90 seconds, so I prefer to use high-intensity interval training to maximize my conditioning level. 3-Week Cycle of Off-Season Volume Fun

Since GPC Worlds, we have finished four three-week cycles. We are testing triples on Thanksgiving eve to set percentages to use for meet prep. Your best bet for maximizing strength is to use free-weight exercises over machines. But if overloading your muscles for hypertrophy is what you’re after, give Hammer Strength machines a closer look. Scientists at Western Kentucky University (Bowling Green) found that subjects’ one-rep maxes were significantly greater on the Hammer Strength machines compared to free weights. This suggests machines are better for days when you want to use as much weight as possible. But experts warn against using Hammer Strength as a marker for how much you can lift: Just because you can bench-press 400 pounds on the machine doesn’t mean you can bench that much with free weights.

Broken Idols

The problem with idols is that they eventually let us down. Those placing people on pedestals in turn experience devastation by their idols’ downfall. I’ve seen these scenarios wreck people as their sense of trust and faith is traumatized following that person’s plunge from grace. Ultimately, there is a shared responsibility here. Those in a position of influence or power ought to hold themselves to a higher standard realizing the profound ramifications their actions play in others’ lives. But the responsibility doesn’t terminate on our fallen idols because we share culpability. Why? Because we placed undue, impractical expectations on another human being and for that we’re in error.
