Sagittarius Horoscope for Saturday, December 20, 2014

Sunday, December 21, 2014 - You could have big plans for a great escape, but you sadly realize that there are more pressing things to do as you get closer to the time to leave. Your fiscal affairs demand your attention now that the Capricorn New Moon focuses on your 2nd House of Finances. But don't get lost in your dreams of the future; make a serious commitment and get to work. Take tangible steps, however little they may be, toward achieving your long-term goals.

Scientists tallied up all the advice on Dr. Oz's show. Here's what they found.

On The Dr Oz Show, the bulk of the health recommendations had to do with dietary advice (such as "Carb load your plate at breakfast"), while the Doctors mainly told their viewers to consult a healthcare provider ("Go to your primary care doctor or talk to their nurse before going to the ER to help relieve the load in the ER").

4 How Low-Cost Gyms Like Planet Fitness Psychologically Manipulate Members Into NOT Going To The Gym

Listen. The REASON that gyms like this can cost so little and have far more members than the gym could hold all at one time is simple. They are in most cases open 24 hours a day. Ever been to a gym with lots of members that wasnt 24 hours a day? I have. Its packed. You wait your turn for equipment and that $10 a month you pay all of a sudden isnt worth it. The rotation of members in and out all day is something that your mom and pop shops cannot accommodate. Your local non franchise gym probably has hours of operation or some even open for set hour blocks throughout the day. Why? Because the over head vs the # of members they have vs what they charge, doesn’t allow them to stay open 24 hours a day. It just isn’t in the numbers for them. There are specialty gyms out there that it just makes sense to charge more and have certain hours because they are offering something more. 24 hour franchise gyms are only offering fitness. That’s it. Want to be a bodybuilder? There is another gym for that. Want to be a crossfit champ? There is another gym for that. According to this article a good gym doesn’t have mirrors … ….

The Only Way to Get a Rockin' Six-Pack

When we get our meal plan in order and we are eating in a caloric deficit our bodies will sense that it needs to release some fat from our fat cells to burn off for fuel. When our bodies do this we begin to lose body fat (that fat we see in the mirror). Let’s say your 25% body fat and your goal is to lose your love handles. If you combine basic weight training, cardio and start tracking your calories your body will sense this and begin to bring that body fat number down lower. After a couple of weeks you maybe 20% body fat. You just lost 5%, which is a huge amount of body fat off your frame. That is when you will begin to see a difference in your physique. Will your love handles be gone? Maybe it depends on your genetic makeup but if they aren’t you might have to keep trying to bring your body fat lower. You may need to get down to 15% in order for you to be happy with what you see. That is based on you and your genetics. The bottom line is spot reduction doesn’t exist because our body will only lose fat from all over our bodies not from a single area. If you really want to focus on seeing your six pack maybe you should focus more on what you’re eating as opposed to how many hours of situps you are doing.

Count by 5’s to Build Your Thighs

Squats are the king of leg exercises. It’s a natural body movement that incorporates flexion at all major lower body joints, causing max overload of the major muscles of the body. Increasing your squat strength will result in greater development throughout your entire lower body. Use the tried and true 5X5 method and focus on increasing weight each session to maximize this movement.

6 Fitness Tests You Should Be Able to Pass

Spring is finally here, which means all of you students out there have finals coming up. For most of your classmates, that means lounging around for as long as possible before a series of grueling all-nighters fueled by caffeinated drinks and thoroughly processed salty snacks . Don’t let yourself go down that road—use your time wisely (at least go about it better than your roommates do). And, of course, don’t let exercise fall by the wayside through all those sedentary hours of reading and writing. Take a study break to take our "fitness final exam," assembled with the help and recommendations of trainer Dan Trink of Trink Fitness.

7 Ways to Make Your Workouts Harder

Two simple ways to create tougher workouts are to recruit a training partner or to hire a personal trainer . However, for those of us who A) train at odd or inconsistent times, or B) don't have the disposable income to hire a professional, we need a plan C, which is, we need to get our own asses in gear by scrutinizing every facet of our training program.

Ask Men's Fitness: At What Age Does a Person's Metabolism Start to Significantly Slow?

Your metabolism—the rate at which you burn calories—slows down much earlier than you might think. When you’re just 25, it starts its inevitable decline—as much as 2–4% each year—according to celebrity trainer and fitness expert Obi Obadike. But that doesn’t mean you’re doomed to grow old and fat. Yes, there are a lot of theories out there—for example, that eating hot peppers, drinking green tea, and skipping meals can speed up your metabolism—so it’s tempting to look for shortcuts.

Torso Sculpting Circuit Workout

The cornerstone of this routine, which consist of mostly familiar moves, is the hand-to-thigh plank. This exercise is performed by positioning your hands and feet at shoulder width apart, arms at full extension, just as you would in the top of a push-up. While keeping your body straight and core tight, you will bring one arm at a time into slap your same-side thigh. Alternate hand slaps on each side being careful not to sway or drop your hips.

5 Ways to Beef Up Your Protein Intake

For those trying to lose body fat when consuming protein, know that your body will burn 20-35% of the calories just trying to break it down. When our bodies have enough protein we are in a positive nitrogen balanced state. The more we are in this state the more muscle we will build. However in order to accomplish that we must be consuming an adequate amount of protein each day.

Train at Home to Get Shredded

ANSWER : I’ve seen some insane home gyms. Arnold has enough machines to make you believe he really is the Terminator. Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia has a weight room and a full basketball court. And Mark Wahlberg has a gym that could rival a state-of-the-art strength and conditioning facility. But as much as you may want to build your own mecca of bodybuilding in your garage, you don’t need much to get in great shape at home. I like to build home gyms by thinking of how each piece of equipment will play a role in the method the user has chosen to reach his goals.

What a DNA Test Taught Me About Diet and Exercise

I'm in the process now of incorporating all these changes and recommendations into my diet, and I’ve arranged for further testing on the whole celiac issue. (I know, the topic is celiac/gluten sensitivity is considered trendy and borderline cliché but the DNA doesn’t lie—and my gut has been trying to tell me something for years.) I’ve also just begun a low-carb eating plan.

27
Are Planks Overrated? - Born Fitness

I would say plank, stability ball plank and one-legged plank might be some of the most overrated.  Hey, I am not saying these are not effective in producing core recruitment, but I am saying that these exercises are simply not fun or as challenging as they could be. In fact, I say that the plank in recent years has made training less social and actually castrated the pushup. Face it, you can’t really make a connection with your gym partners while you worry about the elbow pain you feel while face down during a 5-minute plank.

28
Optimal Approach to Postcontest Rebound

If you have been involved in competitive bodybuilding for any length of time,  I am sure you have witnessed what many refer to as “the postcontest rebound.” You may have witnessed someone go from a granite-hard, shrink-wrapped, work of art to a puffy, doughy, and water-retentive catastrophe!

Why You Don’t See Results From Your Workouts (or Diet Plans) - Born Fitness

We all want to believe that we can achieve our fitness goals, but all too often “false hope syndrome” makes the process harder than it needs to be. You need to set realistic expectations of who you are, what you are capable of achieving, and want processes you need to set up to help you be successful. This goes back to building systems. If you know that you fall victim to cravings, don’t tell yourself those days are over and that you can completely control yourself. Odds are, you’re lying to yourself and these positive intentions—while seemingly good—can be harmful. That’s because the moment you slip up you’ll not only revert back to old behaviors (not terrible when it happens once in a while—hey, we all screw up!) but more importantly it can crush your self-esteem. And once that happens, willpower becomes overrun and you fall off the wagon.

The One-Minute Workout

The importance is it proves the power of exercise, any exercise. Just one minute of movement can actually boost your health. For noticeable results, you need to work out for longer than it takes to heat up a cold slice of pizza. But if you truly can only spare 60 seconds (plus a warm-up), these five HIIT moves have the power to do some damage.

The Most Common Workout Mistake - Born Fitness

As you know (and have experienced) I am not only big on warmups, but I consider the Warmup the cornerstone of Training for Warriors training. A common mistake in training, however, is to use either an inadequate or no warmup at all before training.  Since a trainee often thinks training itself is great at getting the heart rate up and increases core temperature, they often skip a warmup completely and jump head-first into the session. In most of the training books and DVDs out there, a warmup is quickly glazed over as if it is unimportant. This is definitely not the case and unfortunately sets the tone as if it doesn’t count.

Eating At Night Does Not Make You Fat - Born Fitness

Do you have more breakfast meetings or more dinner parties? Do you prefer drinks at night or in the morning? Eating at night is essential component of the social fabric of our society. And living in a world where you can’t eat at night and can’t enjoy food with your friends and family is too restrictive. It’s a reason why so many people hate dieting.

Are You Overtrained or Undertrained?

So the point of all this is to encourage you to take a step back and examine what you’re doing in the gym, and honestly assess your workload. Before you so quickly label yourself “overtrained,” be sure you’re not, in fact, undertrained. And don’t be so sure that counting up the number of hours spent in the gym or the total number of sets completed will give you a good answer. I can’t even begin to describe how many unfortunate souls I’ve seen over the years who’ve spent countless hours in the gym, yet had pathetic development.

Build Muscle Mass While Preventing Joint Damage

Bodybuilding is all about mass: building more muscle mass means lifting more mass in the gym. No bones about it, you must train heavy to get huge. Just take a look at the poundage hoisted by some of the sport’s biggest pros, such as Ronnie Coleman, Markus Rühl and Dorian Yates. These guys train hard and heavy and it shows. The irony of training with a lot of mass to put on muscle mass is that it has the opposite effect on joints. Lifting heavy weights actually reduces the mass of cartilage.

41
Easy Gains for the Hardgainer

But the task is far from easy. The hardgainer will typically have a poor appetite and be naturally “weaker” in regard to muscle strength. This means diligent, planned eating will take priority and daily appointments with heavy iron will need to be habitual. As the hardgainer slowly but surely gets meals down and masters the mechanics of old-school Olympic lifts, his/ her muscle mass and muscle strength will inevitably increase.

Phil Heath on Brining Up Your Legs

But each of those body parts can take that much work. In my prep for this year’s Olympia, I trained legs twice every six days. Everything else got trained once. So I hit legs every third day, and double-split them: quads in the a.m., and hams and calves in the p.m. I wanted them round and full. My upper body’s been growing really fast the past couple of years, and I wanted to make sure my legs stayed in balance.

Body Transformation: Margo Logan, From Overweight To The NPC Stage! - Bodybuilding.com

There was a point in time when I hit a plateau. I was really nervous that I would not be able to bring my body fat down in time. Jessie texted me one evening and reminded me how far I had come and how what I was doing was not easy. She told me that very few people can make the transition from bikini to figure in such a short amount of time, and that the next three weeks would separate the people who could handle competing in the sport and those who could not. She reminded me to enjoy the process, and that not many people have the discipline or determination to achieve the kind of goal I had. The body I was achieving was the real prize, not the trophy that I may or may not take home.
