10 Best Lifts for Mass - Dennis Wolf | 2018 Arnold Classic

For the first 12 years he trained, Wolf would bench press at nearly every chest workout. In more recent years, he has switched to more dumbbells and machines, yet still keeps the bench press in his rotation. “I bench press once a month now, and even then I don’t like to go very heavy.” Of course, four good sets of 10-12 reps with 315 would be considered very heavy by plenty of guys, but it’s not a tendon-straining amount of iron for the Big Bad Wolf, and that’s the whole point. “I like to do the reps in very good form, with a solid squeeze of the pecs at the top of each rep and a good stretch as I lower the bar slowly.” And even though he doesn’t do it as often anymore, Dennis still recommends that beginners pay their dues on it. “It’s the absolute best exercise to build a foundation with. Just be sure you use it the right way to build muscle, not just worrying about how much weight you use and doing just a couple of reps.”

Sagittarius Horoscope for Thursday, February 22, 2018

Thursday, February 22, 2018 - You are so reliable at work that it seems as if everyone is leaning on you to help them finish their chores. But you are less expressive today, keeping your concerns about your hectic schedule to yourself. Nevertheless, you might finally react if you feel pushed to the edge. Although you could unexpectedly lose your temper, an emotional outbreak is mentally draining. Deliver on your promises and complete your work on time. Being true to your word is more important now than being true to your feelings.

Tip: Stop Bouncing Your Deadlifts | T Nation

The prime movers are relaxed and they must suddenly contract all-out to absorb the weight and pull it up. This is a tremendous shock for the body, and it's even worse because you'll be in a bad posture most of the time. Since the glutes are harder to recruit, the lower back and hams will take the brunt of the stress. Hello, lower back injury or hamstring pull!

Tip: Eat More, Get Ripped | T Nation

Restricting calories, or burning more through exercise, is really the only way to lose fat. No matter the diet plan, they all have you cutting back on calories one way or another. But if you've been reducing calories for months and the fat loss has come to a halt, then it's time to start reverse dieting.

The legendary John Brown talks teenage bodybuilders using steroids and if it should be legalized for adults. The legendary bodybuilder who changed the game when it comes to posing in the sport, John Brown, joins Shawn Ray and Tifanny Urrea on The Breakdown to discuss his bodybuilding past, his family's fame now found through his three talented football player sons, and also the current state of bodybuilding. More specifically, John Brown weights in on the current state of steroids in bodybuilding, the rise of teenage steroid use, and how it compares to bodybuilding in the past. It's no secret that steroids is used by some athletes in every single sport - but how does this affect the young kids that will become the future generation of athletes? Tip: 3 Unique Fat-Loss Tips | T Nation

An article by an unnamed author on a site named Ergo-Pharm recently listed nine fat loss tips. Most of them were well known, but a few of them were a little unusual, or at least incorporated an unusual twist. As such, I felt compelled to appropriate (polite word for steal) the gist of a few of them, but wrote original text to make them my own.

Rise of the (Weight) Machines: Why Exercise Equipment is Not As Bad You've Been Told

“The key here is to use a full range of motion,” Gentilcore says. “Many trainees make the mistake of retracting or squeezing their shoulder blades together on these on the concentric action, which is fine, but on the eccentric straightening out the arms, they keep the shoulder blades ‘glued’ together. I don’t like this for many reasons, but the main one is that it can lead to faulty scapular mechanics. I like to cue people to think about the shoulder blades moving around the rib cage during rowing movements. To that end, with the seated cable row, you can really emphasize a nice stretch at the end of each repetition which is a great mechanism of muscle growth.”

Born Fitness Recipes: Banana Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Pancakes

I don’t eat breakfast very often, but breakfast foods are one of my favorite things to eat. From eggs and chicken sausage, to waffles, pancakes, and french toast, it’s hard to go wrong with any morning meal favorite. The problem? Many carb loaded breakfast foods clock in at thousands of calories, and there’s nothing about them that would even come close to qualifying at healthy.

Lifters Over 30 Need to Get Real | T Nation

A lot of coaches say that lifting weights for higher reps makes you more prone to injury. In the case of training methodologies that have you racing the clock, it's true. But sets of 10-12 or even 15 reps of a compound movement shouldn't be outside the vocabulary of a recreational lifter who has his health and wellness first in mind, along with building plenty of muscle and strength.

10 Great Food Hacks for Lifters | T Nation

I'd have 8 scoops of Plazma™ during training sessions (and even just throughout the day) to keep getting more quality carbs and protein in. This allowed me to be consistent with 800-1100 grams of carbs a day and 350 grams of protein for most of my gaining season. For someone who doesn't like to eat a ton, it was priceless. The 16:8 Fasting Diet | T Nation

Let me emphasize that nutrient timing when going into training fasted or semi-fasted (you break your fast about 15 minutes prior to training here), becomes more important than training in a fed state, where you've eaten 90-120 minutes prior to training. In a fed state, getting in a good meal an hour or two after training works just fine. If you choose to train in the manner above, I highly recommend this protocol because the selected nutrients are ones that get through the digestive tract rapidly and into the cells very quickly.

Tip: Take This (Quickly!) to Avoid the Cold or Flu | T Nation

One theory is that the infection-fighting T cells need vitamin D in order to activate. Researcher Carsten Geisler explained it this way: "When a T cell is exposed to a foreign pathogen, it extends a signaling device or 'antenna' known as a vitamin D receptor, with which it searches for vitamin D. This means the T cells must have vitamin D or activation of the cell will cease."

Figure it out yet? Increased distance from the equator and winter both equate to decreased exposure to sunlight, particularly the UV-B radiation that's needed for the synthesis of Vitamin D, a vital component of the immune system. This may also explain why colds and flu are more prevalent in winter months, when sun exposure is limited. (2)
