A lot of coaches say that lifting weights for higher reps makes you more prone to injury. In the case of training methodologies that have you racing the clock, it's true. But sets of 10-12 or even 15 reps of a compound movement (squat, deadlift, overhead press, bench press, etc.) shouldn't be outside the vocabulary of a recreational lifter who has his health and wellness first in mind, along with building plenty of muscle and strength.

These laws are a useful framework for discussing metabolic fluctuations in relation to fat loss. They aren't real laws of course, but I've termed them as such due to the amount of research that supports their existence, and the clinical reality of their impact. The other part of the equation is that elevated insulin reduces fat mobilization. As long as insulin stays elevated, you'll be inefficient at losing fat. Box jumps require a bit of experience and athleticism to do properly, but sprinting up a hill is doable for almost anybody. Find a fairly steep grade and dash up it. Walk back to the bottom and, when you’re ready, charge up the hill again; repeat for about 20 minutes. (You don’t need to go again right away—in fact, this may cause you to break form and get hurt, so don’t.) While running on flat ground can cause pulled hamstrings or hip flexors in beginners, sprinting on an incline slows you down so you don’t put the same pressure on your lower body. You can still work hard and not get hurt. Imagine that.
