It is. When I was 17, I started training with Justin “Troponin” Harris, and until then I had no concept that some guys were meant to be a lot bigger and muscular than others. I just thought I was growing so fast because I trained harder than everyone else in the gym. I had gone to shows and was reading the magazines, but I still never heard enough about genetics to know how much of an influence they had. Then I was getting ready for a show and I remember asking Justin why I was still growing while I was dieting, when other guys seemed to shrink. He just laughed and said, “You’re a freak, Steve; you just don’t know it yet.”

The Best Dumbbell Exercise You're Not Doing | T Nation

There are two slight variations and coaching points to further stimulate and load the muscle to illicit a greater training effect. Make the dumbbell heads touch during the set, and try to push the dumbbells together – while at the same time squeezing and contracting the biceps. Pushing the dumbbells together really helps to enforce this. At the top of the lift, pause for a second before beginning the eccentric (lowering) phase.

I'd have 8 scoops of Plazma™ during training sessions (and even just throughout the day) to keep getting more quality carbs and protein in. This allowed me to be consistent with 800-1100 grams of carbs a day and 350 grams of protein for most of my gaining season. For someone who doesn't like to eat a ton, it was priceless. And I grow better on liquid food than solid food.
