Tip: Use Exact Antagonist Exercises | T Nation

Note: This doesn't apply to lower body training. (It's not that it can't be done, it's just more complicated). But what about leg extensions and leg curls? Aren't those perfectly opposing antagonist exercises? Yep, but that particular pairing sucks. In regard to lower body training, just remember to alternate quad-dominant exercises like squats with hip-dominant exercises such as deadlifts.

Tip: The Core Squat | T Nation

Unstable loading produced far greater core activation at the same level of submaximal loading. An increase of 85.7% in the rectus abdominis and 13.1% in the external oblique was seen. Also, a 72.2% increase in muscle activation in the soleus (the calf muscle used for balance and stability along with plantarflexion) was observed in the unstable loading trial.

What we've done here is to manage accumulating fatigue levels by giving ourselves permission to lower the load on latter sets if necessary. This strategy allows you to go all-out for one big set and reach an intensity level that you wouldn't have managed otherwise. Also, the post activation potentiation (PAP) from the set with 390 lead to bigger numbers in your latter sets than would have otherwise been possible.

(Dorsiflexion occurs when you pull your toes up toward your shin.) If your shin can't tilt forward enough then you may flex excessively at the hips and/or spine in an effort to get to the depth you want. That may mean back pain and/or a weak squat position. One solution is to wear weightlifting shoes. The raised heel reduces the demand for dorsiflexion when squatting. But I argue that you should fix yourself. Why not have a fully functioning body?

Tip: Dopamine, Serotonin, and Toughness | T Nation

Your brain is firing on all cylinders. Anxiety is when it's firing too fast: you feel like everything is sped up, like you're not in control of your brain or body. Serotonin's function is to reduce that level of activation to a manageable level. Those with very low levels of serotonin will tend to be a lot more anxious and crash under pressure.

5 Lifts That Beat Traditional Benching | T Nation

It doesn't matter whether the reason for this is technical, structural, or functional. If pain is present, choose one or several alternatives to keep getting stronger and keep building muscle. You can always work around and with a problem, but you can't always do it with the same strategy that caused the problem in the first place.
