The SAID (specific adaptation to imposed demands) principle states that if you repeatedly place a demand on a muscle group, it'll grow bigger and stronger to accommodate that demand. Of course, these big-legged athletes also use heavy weight training as part of the program, but bodybuilders would do well to emulate them by upping the reps while training quads, especially in isolation.

When the HRV deviates too far from your baseline, you want to move into the green training days and away from red. For example, my baseline HRV is 8.0. When I see it jump into the 9's, that almost always comes after some intense days of training and is a strong indication my body is trying to get back to balance. The 5 Most Worthless Exercises of All Time | T Nation

In some CrossFit classes you have the option to "scale down" if you can't do an exercise as prescribed. Let's say you have pull-ups in a WOD. If you can't do pull-ups, instructors normally have you do banded pull-ups. But some people are too weak (or heavy) for those. What do they do then? They put a box below the pull-up bar. The person stands on the box with his or her hands grabbing the pull-up bar. They're instructed to "jump and pull" until their chin is above the bar.
