Tip: Bad Ankles, Bad Squat? | T Nation

A lot of coaches try to get people's hips or knees to do this or that, all the while ignoring that if the ankles aren't moving properly, the knees and hips can't move properly for efficient load distribution. For the hips to open up, you have to have adequate hip abduction. The knees should move out to the side when that happens very naturally. However, if the ankles are pronating and not supinating, then none of that will ever happen.

13 Set-Rep Schemes for Brand New Growth | T Nation

I typically do multiple sets working my way up in weight. In the video, I'm using both bands and chains to deload weight at the bottom of the movement, but that's not necessary. The key is to work up to a tough working weight whereby you'd do 4 sets of 6-8 reps. However, rather than doing all 4 working sets, only do 3. The first two are standard 6-8 rep sets, but the third is a challenge set where you'd do as many reps as possible.

Client 1: He is very upset about his bench press. He is doing great with reps but when the weight gets heavier he gets stapled to the bench. Finally last week I programmed a heavy single and I knew what would happen...he would get pinned down to the bench and miss something that he thought would be easy! So I get an email and he is crushed mentally and ready to give up on bench press, yet I'm excited! Why? Because finally he sees that the heavier the weight on the bar is the less he drives with his feet, that the little mistake of dropping the bar below his elbows really does matter, and that his butt is still coming up off of the bench BECAUSE he is relaxing on the way down till he has to actually press. Yet I think he should be THRILLED by this because what I also see is that all he needs to do is to be able to JM Press 255 x 6, go through his rotator cuff exercises with the 60's, and he needs 90 sessions of scapular retraction exercises to turn what he can 3 board bench into his full bench press off of his chest! THAT IS IT!

These tiny muscles don't act as dynamic movers that alter positions at the spinal segments themselves, but rather sensory organs that in a split second turn on or turn off widespread tone throughout a region according to perceived threat. That threat is usually deep spinal flexion combined with contact into the lumbar region, whether it's from driving your lower back down into the ground hugging the knees to the chest, or sticking a lacrosse ball into your lower back and rolling it around. Once these bad boys turn on, it takes hard work to get them to turn back off, resulting in normalized tone through key musculature in the hip, spine and pelvis.

The Best Way to Build Your Butt | T Nation

With the split squat, there are a few cues to remember. For one, if you're doing these with the rear leg on a bench, think about the knee of that leg going down and back as you keep the weight on the heal of the planted foot. This will help you load the glutes instead of getting too much knee flexion on the planted foot, which loads the quads more. Also make sure and use iso-holds at the end of each set for about 10 seconds, only coming about three-fourths of the way back up. This will really torch the glute medius.
