Each of the four strength exercises in a Fat-Loss Five circuit is performed for 30 seconds. You then rest 15 seconds before starting the next strength-based exercise. However, the total-body cardio interval, which is done last, is performed for 1-2 minutes. This means that as you become fitter, you may not need to take a complete rest for 60 seconds between circuits. Instead, you may want to do a longer active recovery by extending your cardio interval from 1 minute to 2 minutes, and then going directly into your next circuit.

Power Surge: Chest Blast

This month I want to show you my chest workout, which serves as a perfect introduction to the concepts of power bodybuilding. Like a powerlifting workout, reps are kept low to allow you to use the heaviest possible weight. You’ll also rest 3–5 minutes between sets, letting you make a full recovery and continue lifting heavy throughout the session. The volume necessary to satisfy the bodybuilding portion of this equation comes from the number of total sets used; though you’ll do only four exercises in total, you’ll do 28 sets, including warmups. These workouts tend to run long (90-plus minutes) but allow you to chase everything you want at the same time. Get after it, Beast.

"Use a barbell, which will allow you to load the greatest amount of weight for the strongest muscle-building stimulus. Hold the bar at shoulder width with your palms down (or use an alternating grip if the weight is too heavy to hold on to; lifting straps are another option). Shrug your shoulders to your ears, pulling them back a bit as they come up. Since the bar will touch your thighs, it won't allow you to retract your shoulders very far, but doing so activates more of the traps."

@dillensteeby Hey buddy, thank you for the feedback. Although you are certainly right about TUT, remember that accumulated tension is the goal. To continue placing tension onto a muscle or muscle group before it's fibers have had a chance to recover will still have the same or a similar hypertrophic effect as continuing the same set. The benefit of the short rest of 5-15s is that enough ATP has been restored to produce more force, but not enough to hinder the accumulation of micro-trauma and the production of growth hormone. If you want to really get into it contact me personally or study the guys from the Irish Strength Institute and their use of "Giant Sets" which are basically super sets on the craziest steroids you've ever seen. On Trial: Wrist Straps vs. No Straps

When doing pulling exercises, such as most back exercises, FLEX recommends you use wrist straps during all sets to enhance gains in both muscle strength and size. First, he looks awesome - and I don't (so let's get that out of the way). But I hear a lot of people talking about "training to failure", but I rarely see it. He mentions it several times. But 1: he doesn't have a partner so can't really train to failure and 2: (for instance) if that rep we saw on his set of 10 on the flat bench was his last rep, looked far from failure. Not critical, just wondering why I hear it so much but really never see it. I started with a partner 2 months ago - started going to failure (literally) on every working set of every exercise and I've noticed a big difference.
