Sagittarius Horoscope for Friday, May 20, 2016

Friday, May 20, 2016 - You may be overly sensitive to the cosmic tides these days; progress is too slow for your taste now that Mars and Saturn are backpedaling in your sign. However, the emphasis could be on someone else while the Gemini Sun sheds light on your 7th House of Partnerships, setting up a dilemma between your internal and external worlds. Consider ways to express your own needs while still honoring the most significant relationships in your life. Being true to yourself doesn't mean that you must ignore everyone else.

Arnold's Tips for Building Up Your Quads

How To: The best way to develop the “teardrop” that every guy wants (or should want) is to do leg presses. But here’s the trick: Because the vastus medialis works hardest when the knee is fully bent, I suggest using a range of motion where you go all the way down (as far as you can without your lower back coming up off of the pad), but rise only three-quarters of the way back up on every rep. Do these for a few months and your lower quads will cease to be a weakness.

The Rock Clock™ on the App Store

The sweet tunes of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was the motivation I was missing as I began my daily routines. I can honestly say these past few days I've woken up with more energy, determination and grit. I couldn't be more delighted The Rock found a way into all our bedrooms but I can't help but think he could have found a more energy efficient way. The need to leave this sweet app open overnight is a real bummer. I know The Rock always thinks ahead and would never go to sleep without plugging his phone in but The Rock is also pragmatic. He would recognize that at times it is just impractical to plug the phone in. Like when I'm camping and I want to get juiced up for that big hike. I have no doubt The Rock has some of our nation's top minds working on this. They should set the fix as a project and wake up on The Rock's time, they'd have it fixed (crushed) in a week.

H.U.G.E. Gym Class: Cardio

We have to talk about it. As much as you’d rather discuss bench pressing, biceps or just about anything else, most bodybuilders spend more time on a treadmill or StepMill than a leg press or preacher bench. And when dieting down, most iron men and women invest more hours burning calories than pumping muscles. Still, the majority of trainers haven’t learned how to maximize their stationary strides. This month, we shed the fat and explain how to get your cardio back on track. Class is in session.

Six Ways to Kick Your Metabolism into Overdrive

We know that genetics certainly plays a role in the speed at which you process calories. Some are more blessed than others. But science has also taught us that there are ways, both through specific exercises and food choices, that can augment (or suppress) your metabolic rate. Unfortunately, there is a roller coaster-like process that is almost unavoidable, called life, that occasionally gets in the way. In any case, the more you understand about why and how your body responds to various stimuli, the better you’ll be at dialing in your best physique ever.

Vegans Suck at Science. Here's The Proof. | T Nation

If there's one macronutrient you can't overdo, it's protein. And if there's one type of protein you can't go wrong with, it's meat. Because despite what your vegan hipster coworker keeps telling you, animal protein is the best food for building and maintaining muscle, and it's required for a long and healthy life. But what about all those studies vegans like to quote showing that meat is "bad?" Let's take a closer look.

Leg Extensions for Bigger Better Quads

Researchers from the University of Miami (Coral Gables, Florida) tested the muscle activity of the quad muscles through different ranges of motion during leg extensions. For reference, when you do a leg extension, you start with your knees bent at about 90 degrees and finish with your legs fully extended at 180 degrees. The Miami researchers found that when the subjects performed the leg extension in the middle of the ROM (about 120-150 degrees), the vastus lateralis received the majority of the focus; in the last 30 degrees of the ROM (about 150-180 degrees), the vastus medialis was the major focus. So, for better outer-quad sweep, start leg extensions by doing two or three sets through just the first half of the ROM and finish with two or three sets at full ROM. To develop bigger teardrops, start leg extensions with two or three sets going through just the top half of the ROM, and then finish with two or three sets at full ROM.

Tip: Do High-Rep Plate Raises for Traps | T Nation

Many lifters use the front plate raise, but they don't get results. The first mistake they make is raising a very heavy plate only to eye level. With this version, go lighter and raise the plate over your head. Bringing it all the way overhead will bring the traps and upper back into action. These really hit the top of the traps and the rhomboids.

How Exercising Outdoors Keeps You Healthy

Another reason to take your workout outside the gym at least sometimes: Research shows that the awe you feel when you experience nature’s beauty can also help your immune system stay strong. Science has long shown that exercising outdoors produces a boost in feel-good hormones. Now a new study published in the journal Emotion found that these happy feelings are also linked to lower levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, proteins that signal the immune system to work harder, possibly wearing it down. And when your immune system operates at an optimal level, you’re better able to ward off diseases and stay healthier.

6 Moves to Work Your Arms to Exhaustion

Ninety-nine percent of Muscle & Fitness readers started lifting weights to build bigger arms , the other one percent are liars! Iconoclast, old-school bodybuilder, the late Chuck Sipes, had this to say, “The settler, the village blacksmith, the lumberjack, the carpenter and builder — all needed powerful arms to ply their trade well, and in time those with the greatest, most powerful arms grew to be respected for their contributions.”

Shredding Strategies

Are there really any secrets left in the world? With the advent of the Internet and the explosion of information across the globe, "secrets" are now few and far between. That's especially true when it comes to dieting tips. That's not to say all the tricks for getting lean are widely known. In a few cases, far from it - there are a handful of techniques bodybuilding pros regularly employ that don't get much play elsewhere. But they work, and here, I'm going to share six of them with you.

H2O for the Bodybuilder

As an athlete or a healthy person—you know soda is not the best choice for a beverage, but drinking plain water sometimes seems more like a chore rather than the right thing to do for your body. More and more people today are “hooked” on diet sodas and carbonated beverages than ever before. Bodybuilders on a contest diet like to drink it, as the carbonation keeps them full and they like the taste better than plain water. It also feels like a treat to have a diet soda in a world of plain, unseasoned contest foods. But not only can diet sodas hinder weight loss and upset your digestive process, they can also prevent your body from ridding itself of excess water. The hardest part of getting on the “drink water” bandwagon is getting of the soda roller coaster. Rather than going cold turkey and moving straight to plain water, I have a plan that I use with many athletes and clients that either have difculty getting enough fluids in or for those trying to kick the habit of carbonated drinks and sodas. If you are used to drinking diet soda and carbonated beverages, the easiest way I’ve found to kick the habit is to wean down.

Arnold's Bench Basics

This isn’t the ideal way for bodybuilders to bench press. As you lift the bar, think about pushing your shoulders forward and squeezing your pecs together at the top of each rep. This increase in range of motion is fairly small, but it’s nonetheless significant: It prevents you from using your triceps too much at the top and keeps maximum tension on the pecs. Locking out your elbows will do little for you as a bodybuilder. Powerlifters also adjust their grip width on the bar (wider or narrower) according to what allows them to lift the most weight. The grip width used by bodybuilders will vary depending on individual proportions, but you need to make sure the pecs do more of the work. With too narrow a grip, you end up working the triceps rather than the pecs. I suggest keeping your bench-press grip outside shoulder width for maximum pec development. Another key benching technique for powerlifters is keeping the elbows in tight to their sides to increase power output. For bodybuilding, keep your elbows out to your sides, to the point where your upper arms are about perpendicular to your torso.

Bring Up Your Arm Size

Because the triceps make up such a large proportion (approximately 60%) of the muscle mass on the upper arm, when it comes to bringing up overall arm size, focusing on the tri’s is a smart plan. Of the three triceps heads — long, lateral and medial — the long head makes up the majority of the mass and adds the most size to the upper arm when viewed from side. One of the best ways to hit the long head is with barbell incline triceps extensions. To perform this exercise, sit back on an incline bench set to a 45-degree angle or higher. Hold a barbell overhead so that your arms are perpendicular to the floor. Keeping your upper arms still, bring the barbell down to the back of the top of your head by bending your arms only at the elbow joints. Return the bar to the start position by extending your arms at the elbows.

5 Ways to Boost Triceps Growth

The man who wants  bigger triceps  cannot live on pressdowns alone. Too often, we see guys in the gym—and maybe you're one of them—working his triceps to death at the cable pressdown station. Ten sets, 15 sets... whatever it takes to get them sore. But what the pressdown-happy masses don't seem to realize is that this exercise emphasizes the lateral (outer) head of the triceps. So if that's all you do, the other two heads of your tri's are going to be underdeveloped and you'll never get the kind of growth you're hoping for.

The 6 Best Hairstyles for Every Face Shape

A lot of guys like to embrace a versatile haircut—but not everyone out there can rock every hairstyle out there well. Certain looks will work better for some guys than others and vice versa. Turns out, your face shape has a lot to do with whether a cut looks awesome on you—or just plain silly. So, we reached out to a few of the industry leaders at the top of the game to help you understand which hairstyles are best for the six major face shapes. You'll see that they completely agree in certain instances, but have varying opinions in others. So, read through each expert's take on the cuts that are right for your face shape—then make an educated decision on what your next hairstyle should be from there.

4 Moves For Bigger Traps

Building big traps is a necessity for a symmetrically sculpted upper torso, and most guys usually give these muscles attention at the end of their shoulder workout . But to really build some shirt stretching traps, you've got to isolate this area with a variety of exercises that target the upper, middle and lower section of these muscles.

30 Surprising Ways to Burn Fat Daily

Don’t have time to hit the gym today? No worries. Believe it or not, there is a solution to missing a workout: get moving. You burn tons of calories by living an active lifestyle and eating well already. But just to prove it, we tapped into an extensive  study  from Harvard Medical School that measured how many calories a 185-lb guy burns over a 30-minute period during routine activities. We also used a Mayo Clinic calorie calculator for ideas of our own (think: climbing the Subway stairs). The result? Presenting: M&F's  ultimate list of the 30 most surprising ways you can zap fat fast, every day — without even realizing it.

High-Intensity Finishers Will Amp Up Your Workout

Complete your workout feeling strong and burn more calories after it’s over by using metabolic finisher sets at the end of your routine. “These use every last drop of gas in your tank,” explains Lisa Niren, a personal trainer and group fitness instructor at the PE Club in New York, who typically adds metabolic finishers for fat loss as a replacement to performing cardio. “Metabolic finishers are not always the most ‘fun,’” she says, “but they help prepare mental toughness and allow you to finish the workout with the satisfaction that comes with pushing yourself to your edge.”

7 LinkedIn Mistakes That Could Cost You The Job

Chances are if you have a job, then you also have a LinkedIn account. With more than 43 million users worldwide, LinkedIn is a great way to network with recruiters and leaders at your dream company, ultimately putting yourself at an advantage when it's time to apply for open positions. But if you’re "doing it wrong," you may be creating a bad online rep.

Egg Whites: Why are We Not Eating the Entire Egg?

If you are using eggs whites as basically a protein power yes. As basic food no. They are not a high fat food. They have just enough fat to satisfy your hunger. The yolk has almost as much protein in the as the egg white. But the yolk has close to 100% of all the rest of an eggs nutrients in it. You give up far too much and gain very little by going to eggs whites. But if you are cutting a nutritional loss must happen. But it is only for a short time. As a long term weight loss diet, cutting out the yolks is not a good idea at all. You need a certain amount of food and few things have more solid food value per calorie than an eggs yolk. Not eating the Omega-3 fatty acids in the eggs is a mistake, if you are on a long term weight loss diet

8 At-Home Workouts Under 10 Minutes to Help You Lose Weight and Build Muscle

Most of us have the option of going to the gym at two points in the day: before work, or after work. Both of these timeframes are peak hours which means the crowd factor is at a 10. Locker rooms, crowded. Showers, crowded. Dumbbell rack, crowded. Benches, crowded... and sweaty. You get the point. Your mood is affected, your workouts suffer, and results can dwindle. Not to mention, everyone looks at you like you're a jerk because you're trying to do a superset or a circuit.
