Develop the Ultimate Overhead Press | T Nation

Consider that the humeral head is classified into three types: Type A (smooth), Type B (curved), and Type C (hooked). Your type determines which press you'll be capable of doing correctly. We don't need to get into how to classify yourself, but suffice it to say, performing an overhead variation for eight weeks that causes you to get injured doesn't really help.

At 2.5g of BCAA, it may be a little on the low side, but i've also seen/bought much lower dosed BCAAs that this, so it isnt bad either. It also provides 212 mg of electrolytes to help keep you hydrated during the grueling workout session, which is a huge plus, electrolytes during a workout are a lifesaver! The additional 2g of taurine is also very nice as it provides a good strength and endurance boost. Then there is the L-citruline which helps to provide blood flow to your muscles and tissues, which is a fancy way of saying it gives you a nice decent pump. Flavor wise, the lemon lime was a little on the weak side. When mixed in the recommended amount of water (8-12 oz) it had a very nice flavor, sort of like the lemon lime Powerade, which is why i wanted to try it in the first place....I LOVE lemon lime powerade! But when i mix my BCAA's i usually like to mix up a full shaker cup and sip on it, rather than sip on water. When i mixed one scoop into a full shaker, it was pretty weak, but theres an easy solution...Mix in 2 scoops! That way you get the full flavor experience, AND you get the full 5g dose of BCAA's! Overall, the flavor is nice and refreshing, although maybe a little on the weak side.

10 Amazing Facts About Testosterone | T Nation

A student at Georgia State University named Jonathan Bassett had read implications in the scientific literature that females with higher testosterone levels gave birth to more boys than girls. While this doesn't make much sense off-hand, high levels of testosterone in fertile females might affect the viability of male and female zygotes after conception.

7 Dumb Things Lifters Argue About | T Nation

Lifting 3-4 days a week (and training each muscle 2-3 times per week) works best for the vast majority of lifters. If time and energy are super-tight, 2 days a week is almost as good. If you can afford to live at the gym and don't have any type of a real life, 5-6 days might be slightly better than 3 or 4 days.

Tip: This Type of Exerciser Earns More Money | T Nation

But it could also be a chicken-and-egg issue. And correlation doesn't imply causation. Maybe goal-oriented, responsible, harder-working people are more drawn to the gym to begin with. Exercise didn't cause them to earn more money, but those who are driven to earn more just happen to also want to take care of themselves more and push themselves harder.

4 Exercises for Real Posture Improvement | T Nation

Using your body plus gravity and a foam roller is a great way to make the spine feel extension without a real muscular force-feed. Being able to have the back and shoulders fold around the roller can help the body and spine connect the brain to the feeling of extension without too much muscular "fighting for position." It's actually more of a relaxing stretch. Using different arm positions can be a game changer to help understand how this translates to overhead exercises.

Tip: Cluster Training for New Muscle Growth | T Nation

This is a great variation for cluster training. Even for pull-up ninjas, using a fat-grip can drastically cut down on the volume they can handle per set. Using extensive clustering works well, allowing you to almost bypass local muscle fatigue. With this variation, the pump you'll experience in the biceps, forearms, and even the latissimus will be surprising.

24 Max Muscle Leg Blast | Exercises for Bigger Wheels

Guy has the rare look of quads that hang over the kneecaps, which is what made the quads of men like Tom Platz and Paul “Quadzilla” DeMayo so impressive. While Guy freely concedes that he was gifted with some extraordinary genetics for the entire lower body, he still feels most bodybuilders fall far short of their full leg development potential because they don’t train legs like a bodybuilder should. “Too many bodybuilders try to be powerlifters, and lift way too much weight with absolutely shitty form,” he declares. “I see it every day in the gym, guys doing half-reps, or using momentum to move the weight rather than their muscles. If they understood that judges don’t give a shit how much they lift and understand that they are judged on their physiques rather than the weight they use in the gym, they would have much more developed legs.” Did you all hear and understand that? I sure hope so, because I absolutely agree with Guy that this is what is keeping most bodybuilders from ever having great legs.

Tip: Get Your Fat Intake Down To A Science | T Nation

I take my dose all at once because fats are much less sensitive to exercise timing. Regarding type, so many fats in a typical diet are already omega-6 (which we seriously over-consume and are a substrate for inflammation) and omega-9 (like the aforementioned MUFA). Remember, when we take a dose of omega-3 fats, we don't typically think of them as a portion of daily calories, which would be miniscule (2 g x 9 kcal per gram = just 18 kcal).

Tip: Spot Reduction That Works | T Nation

Yes, it can work with the right type of training. The effect is small, but if you're fine-tuning your physique it'll make a noticeable visual difference.

Hot Debate: Which Squat is Best? | T Nation

The powerlifting squat (hip squat/bent over squat/low bar squat) is a more hip dominant squat that reduces quadriceps stimulation. Why? As mentioned, the muscle being stretched the most will be the muscle being recruited the most. In a powerlifting squat the hips move a lot further back, the knees don't travel far forward (the tibias stay almost perpendicular to the floor) and there's less flexion at the knees.

Tip: The Food Pyramid Was Wrong About Fat - Biotest

Monounsaturated fats should be your focus. Think olives, avocados, almonds, organic butter, etc. Whenever possible, eat your fat via the food source from which it's derived. I recommend it over consuming just the oil, which I liken to porn. You know, sex without the physical intimacy of another person. Indulging in Castelvetrano green olives is far better than swallowing a tablespoon of just olive oil.

Tip: The SEAL Push-Up Challenge | T Nation

Any challenge that encourages you to do as many reps as possible of a certain exercise is obviously going to be difficult. The kicker with this exercise, however, is you get a short break between the push-ups and the arm raises which allows you to recover just enough to perform your next round.

Tip: Fat Facts For Lifters | T Nation

It's hard to give a recommended amount because everyone has individual needs, but as a baseline, start with about 40 grams of fat per day from various sources. Of course, if you're doing a keto diet (no carbs) then that number would have to be higher, and if your diet is very high in carbs, consider lowering it.

The 3 Smartest Ways to Train Shoulders | T Nation

Another advantage bands provide during lateral raises is the ability to train explosively without losing shoulder stability at the top of the movement. Because the load is lighter at the bottom of the range when your hands are down by your sides, you're able to engage the delts more explosively and have the speed of contraction slowed down by the increased resistance through the bands at the top. This is great for targeting the fast twitch motor units in the shoulders while also providing a novel, pain-free stimulus for shoulder training.

4 Ways to Ramp Up Your Workout - Biotest

Three minutes of rest between sets of calf raises? Ridicules! There's no point in resting that long unless you're attempting a max lift with a big, compound exercise such as the squat, deadlift, clean, or snatch. Plus you don't need a lot of time to recover between low-rep sets. Why? Because they don't crank up your cardiovascular system like a 20-rep set of squats does.

43 Ten Ways To Quadruple The Effectiveness of Your Workouts

Strength and body composition changes are progressive. They don’t happen after one or two workouts. Progress requires you to string together a series of high-quality workouts in which you do similar exercises each time. The best way to take advantage of this fact is to pick a goal and train using a pre-set program that progressively overloads the body. Consistency is key.

Tip: A New Strategy for Push-Ups | T Nation

There are a lot of biomechanical factors that you have to control when doing the push-up. You press up from a pivot point (your feet) which means your body is following a slight arc. That's important because it tells us where our weight gets shifted as we push up – towards our feet. So, the closer the resistance moves towards the pivot point, the EASIER the rep gets. With that in mind, there's something that'll help you get better.

Tip: Eat Fat, But Find the Middle Ground | T Nation

That's why I like to recommend between 20-30% of total calorie intake coming from fat for the majority, or 0.4g per pound, which tends to work out to be a similar amount. There will be some cases when this goes lower (toward the final stages of a competition prep) or higher (if using a low carb diet), but for most people this is a good place to be.

Thibaudeau's Simple Fat Loss Strategies | T Nation

If you aren't going to train hard, and your goal is fat loss, then you don't need "fast fuel" that day. Note that if your goal is to build maximum size, not get lean, I recommend having carbs on off days. But when trying to get lean this is a very simple approach. You don't even need to necessarily count calories, just don't eat any carbs.

48 Tip: The Keto Diet Doesn't Like Muscle | T Nation

"This research showed no significant changes nor effect size on lean body mass, despite hyper-energetic condition and high protein intake (2.0 g/kg/d) in resistance-trained men of the ketogenic diet group. Thus, we conclude that low-carbohydrate dietary approaches would not be an optimal strategy for building muscle mass in trained men under the training conditions of this study (mechanical tension-focused resistance training protocol during 8 weeks)."

Tip: This Beats the Bulgarian Split Squat | T Nation

This is basically a reverse Bulgarian split squat, but this variation is both safer and more difficult. The key is take a 15-second pause before your reps. (Not shown in video because, well, it's boring to watch a 15 second pause!)
