Sagittarius Horoscope for Friday, August 7, 2015

Friday, August 7, 2015 - You may be caught up in the residual tension of a power struggle today as you continue to navigate the changes that are being demanded of you. But the more you attempt to cling to the status quo, the more complicated the conflict grows. However, if your commitment to a social cause is more important than achieving your personal goals, you can gracefully dance your way through the resistance. Leave your ego at the door when you're working for the greater good.

3
Straight-Up Biceps Workout

For a workout that hits the biceps from all angles, we called upon Ryan Sullivan, a competitive bodybuilder and the owner of Sci-Unison Fitness (sci-unisonfitness .com) in North Babylon, NY. His routine employs dumbbells, a barbell, and cables and puts the upper arms in various positions: in front of the torso with preachers , behind it with incline curls, at the sides with barbell curls , and, to finish, the arms elevated and parallel with the floor via high-cable curls. Such variety will help ensure that both heads of the biceps get maximum stimulation to grow bigger and stronger.

4
Science Behind the Supps: Performance Series

If you’re planning to lean out in time for summer, make sure you have a strategic supplementation plan that will effectively melt fat off your body while helping you maintain a pump in the gym. A fat burner and pre-workout will be your foundation, followed by a trio of supps that will work to preserve that hard-earned muscle mass. The musclebuilding trilogy will take your fitness to new heights: expediting protein synthesis, boosting strength, and increasing energy levels. An effective yet simplistic plan is the real strategy for a summer shred.

6 Simple Moves to Tack on More Tri Size

Triceps, or “back arms” as they are referred to in the pen, are not only key to pressing big weights but they are also crucial to creating an aesthetically pleasing physique. Like anything in the weight room, building big triceps isn’t rocket science, it just takes a plan and a willingness to work hard.

6
8 Things You Should Do During Every Workout

Unless you’re forced to walk 50 miles on broken glass to get to your gym, the saying “the hardest part of going to the gym is getting to the gym” doesn’t really hold true. In fact, we think the toughest part about the gym is making the most of your time spent there. That being said, here are eight things you should do during every workout for maximum results.

7
Add One Inch to Your Arms in One Month

The key to serious size is to take that mythical, only-in-the-gym pump and turn it into permanent muscle. Sure, you can do some fast back-to-back exercises and push your pump through the roof—causing your clothing to fit tight—but just a few short hours later, that pump is gone, and you don’t have the muscle to show for it. The answer to this dilemma is to combine pump-type training with permanent size- and strength-building exercises, then allow for maximal recovery before beating your muscles into submission in the next workout.

8
Training Style: Push-Pull

If you train your body over four consecutive days instead of three, you can still do a push-pull split. Do push (without triceps) and pull (without biceps and forearms) on the first two days, legs on Day 3, and arms on Day 4. Take at least one day off, then repeat.

9
Advanced Bodybuilding: Heavy Squats for Big Arms

So the question is, did that acute increase in anabolic hormones increase muscle strength and hypertrophy in the arm trained in conjunction with the heavy leg exercise? Unfortunately, no. Both maximal strength and muscle cross-sectional area increased identically in both arms by 20% versus a 19% increase in strength for biceps trained alone and biceps trained with a heavy leg exercise.

Hardcore Contenders

We celebrate five of those men, five men who trained the hardest in pursuit of the Sandow only to have it escape their grasp. It may be more instructive to examine their workouts than the workouts of those who beat them, for these five, whose Olympia journeys span more than three decades, simply tried harder. They trained with greater intensity, sometimes longer, often heavier, frequently smarter, but always they drove themselves toward bodybuilding’s summit. Forget that they didn’t make it. Only one man each year does. We celebrate the quest.

Lean Muscle Cardio Workout

There’s a name for this. It’s called “getting in shape,” and it should be done at least four days per week. You can use any machine you want, but my favorite method of doing steady state is to simply jack up a treadmill to the highest possible incline and walk at a pace that keeps my heart rate between 125 and 140 beats per minute. I measure this by placing my hands on the sensors that come with most modern treadmills. I’ll do this for 30 minutes each day, usually before I lift weights, and the benefits of this work have been incredible in terms of improved body composition, better sleep and an improved feeling of overall well being. Best of all, I’m recovering faster than ever, and I’m capable of doing a lot more work in the gym.

17
More Chest Muscle in Less Time

This twice-weekly workout plan is built on that simple premise; instead of starting your week with the flat bench, per the usual, you’re going to head straight for the incline. With your pre-workout raging through your veins, you’ll soon be pressing gnarly weight loads toward the ceiling, touching off crazy new growth in your under-trained upper chest. From there, things normalize with flat-bench dumbbell presses and pushups, with some calculated twists to jack up the intensity, of course.

“CrossFit encompasses all domains of fitness, and it doesn’t require you to be in a gym all the time,” Schroeder says. “As much as you want to believe there’s a perfect workout or strength component you need in order to get better at climbing the pegboard, the truth is you must test yourself outside of your comfort zone, and put yourself in an environment that is conducive to success.”

7 Things You’re Doing After the Gym That Are Wrecking Your Body

Anyone who sticks to a regular workout schedule deserves to feel virtuous, so go ahead, give yourself that pat on the back. Now, know this: There are other habits that happen after your gym visits that you might want to reconsider, pronto. If you're looking to bulk up, slim down, or anything in between, you need to focus just as much on what you're doing outside of the gym (and even in the locker room.) We're talking nutrition, hydration—even hygiene. Don't un-do all the good you're doing by exercising with something as silly as not wearing flip-flops in the gym's shower (yup, we're very serious.) Find out why, plus six other bad post-workout habits you should avoid.

Making Volcano Traps Erupt

Here’s the bad news: You can’t have great traps without them. Now for the good news: They’ll give you the thickest and highest traps possible. “Deads” are the perfect trapezius exercise, because they combine all total-mass principles for this fractious bodypart: maximum poundage, full range of motion, and intense stress on the traps through all dimensions and from top to bottom. As you start the lift, you’re bent over, which pulls your traps forward and stresses them over their entire area of mass, from bottom to top and side to side. As you raise your body, the stress moves progressively downward, from the top of your traps, across your rhomboids, pulling hard at the lateral extremities. At the top, you “lock out” the lift, shrugging your shoulders up and back, which serves as a peak contraction, especially for your upper traps. As you lower the weight, the entire process is reversed, but with the same beneficial effects. You can’t ask for more. Always do deads.

Behind the Scenes: Henry Cavill's September 2015 Cover Shoot

MEN'S FITNESS ventured across the pond to shoot the Man from U.N.C.L.E. himself, Henry Cavill, for our Style Issue. The breathtaking location: a historic 19th-century warehouse in London. "We were shooting Henry down on the street near the warehouse, and a little girl walked by and said, 'Daddy, that's Superman,'" recalls director of photography Brian Marcus. "He was one of the most professional and easy-going subjects I have worked with." In this exclusive behind-the-scenes video, Henry shares his go-to workout when training for a movie like Superman or U.N.C.L.E. , and reveals the most game-changing advice he lives by, courtesy of director Guy Ritchie.

Beyond Bread: Why Some People Can Eat More Carbs Than Others - Born Fitness

Unfortunately, determining insulin levels isn’t an easy process and requires blood work. But you can see how your body reacts to higher carb meals. The simplest test (although far from perfect) is consuming carbs in a post workout period. Do you feel great or do you feel miserable and more bloated? If it’s the latter, either insulin sensitivity isn’t great, or you just ate too much.

5 Vegetarian-Friendly Protein Powders - Bodybuilding.com

But dairy proteins aren't the only way! In the past, a common knock against plant-based protein powders has been that they lack one or more essential amino acid. However, there are more vegetarian-protein alternatives on the market than ever, and many of them combine one or more plant proteins—rice and pea, for example—to ensure you get a full supply of amino acids to support muscle growth and recovery.

5 Ways to Amp Up Barbell Complexes

Throwing finishers at the end of workouts always reminds me of Mortal Kombat fatalities when they say, “Finish Him!” Essentially, for those who have never heard of finishers before, they do exactly that: finish you off with a challenging, usually highly metabolic, circuit or high-rep exercise to transform your body into a calorie-burning machine. Thanks to excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC phenomenon), your body burns calories during and long after the workout.

The Six Best Arm Exercises You’re Not Doing

Finding exercises that target the long and lateral heads of the triceps isn’t difficult: Everything from lying triceps extensions to dumbbell kickbacks to cable pushdowns do the trick. On the other hand, relatively few movements maximize the involvement of the medial head. That makes the reverse-grip cable pushdown — either using both hands simultaneously on a short straight bar or one arm at a time with a D-handle attachment — a great triceps workout finisher every time out.
