Tip: For Stronger Traps, Do THIS Instead of Shrugs | T Nation

Specifically, because the lower traps cross over the upper back and scapulae, they need to be trained with a horizontal motion compared to vertical shrugs that primarily hit the upper traps. And because one main function of the scapulothoracic joint is to stabilize the upper body and control posture, specifically training it for that purpose is the best way to achieve joint health and strength, which is often the foundation of size training.

Build Muscle Mass While Preventing Joint Damage

Bodybuilding is all about mass: building more muscle mass means lifting more mass in the gym. No bones about it, you must train heavy to get huge. Just take a look at the poundage hoisted by some of the sport’s biggest pros, such as Ronnie Coleman, Markus Rühl and Dorian Yates. These guys train hard and heavy and it shows. The irony of training with a lot of mass to put on muscle mass is that it has the opposite effect on joints. Lifting heavy weights actually reduces the mass of cartilage.

15 Exercises to Develop the Best Glutes in the Gym

How to do it: Lie on your back with your feet planted firmly on the floor with your knees bent. If you're just starting and using your bodyweight, reach your arms straight up over your chest and clasp your hands. If you're using dumbbells, place the weight (plate, kettlebell, dumbbell(s)—comfortably on your pelvis and hold it steady. To really activate your glutes, thrust your hips up toward the ceiling, driving with your legs, and dig your heels into the floor. Lower your hips until they're hovering right above the floor level, then repeat.

Bring Up Your Arm Size

Because the triceps make up such a large proportion (approximately 60%) of the muscle mass on the upper arm, when it comes to bringing up overall arm size, focusing on the tri’s is a smart plan. Of the three triceps heads — long, lateral and medial — the long head makes up the majority of the mass and adds the most size to the upper arm when viewed from side. One of the best ways to hit the long head is with barbell incline triceps extensions. To perform this exercise, sit back on an incline bench set to a 45-degree angle or higher. Hold a barbell overhead so that your arms are perpendicular to the floor. Keeping your upper arms still, bring the barbell down to the back of the top of your head by bending your arms only at the elbow joints. Return the bar to the start position by extending your arms at the elbows.

Next, blow all your air out as you crunch down. Contract hard and really try to "cramp" your abs. Hold that bottom position for a beat or two and squeeze. It's a small movement, but do it right and your abs will be on fire.
