Arnold Schwarzenegger's Vacuum Pose
These days, it seems almost nobody does the vacuum anymore. Shawn Ray used to vacuumup when hitting his front double-biceps pose. More recently, Richard Jones has done the same. But that's about it. Why has a posing technique that was once practically mandatory within bodybuilding now such a rarity? I suppose that with the increased bodyweights of competitors come bigger midsections and, as a result, less ability to suck up into a vacuum.

8 Cardio Tips to Burn Fat
This helps you with the simple philosophy behind fat loss : Burn more calories than you take in. If your goal is fat loss, incorporate 4-6, 30-60-minute cardio sessions per week into your training schedule.
Shredded Abs Without Ab Exercises
If your abs are nonexistent, but your diet is in order, the problem may be that you’re performing too many isolation exercises or relying too much on machines. If your body is always supported and locked into one position, your core doesn’t have to stabilize it. Try doing standing exercises and concentrate on classic strength-building moves like squats, dead-lifts, overhead presses, and bent-over rows. Your core is engaged in all these lifts to protect your spine, so you’re getting ab work while training other muscles—and you won’t get bored as with sit-ups.
Master Your Mid-Back Construction
Bend over at the waist so that your torso is basically parallel to the ground. Make sure there is a slight bend in the knees to take some pressure off the low back. Pick up a pair of light dumbbells and allow them to hang down in front of you. With your arms almost completely straight, raise your arms out to the sides in a path that is perpendicular to your torso. At the peak of the movement your elbows should be at shoulder height, and you should aggressively squeeze your middle back. This is not an exercise where heavy weight should be used, or form will be compromised. This movement can be performed seated, standing, lying face down on an incline bench, and on certain chest flye machines.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Q&A
On that episode of Wake Up Call, we have an 18-year-old high-school dropout who has one dream: to become a UFC champion. Despite the fact that his mom is in prison and he dropped out of school, he’s a good kid with a big heart and a dream. I told him if he meets me halfway and puts in the hard work, then I’ll provide the tools he needs to achieve his dream. I called Dana to see if he’d come down to Florida and take a look at this kid and see if he had any potential. I knew I could count on Dana to give it to me and the kid straight without any bullshit. Not only did Dana fly all the way to Florida, but he brought Mike Dolce with him. They put that kid through the ringer with training, conditioning and a shot to become part of Coach Libo’s [Ricardo Liborio] American Top Team up the road from where we live. I won’t give it away, but let’s just say that we may see that kid, Terrell Moore, in the Octagon one day. I can’t thank Dana and the UFC enough for their support of Wake Up Call.
4 Secrets for More Strength
There are plenty of ways you can help your body along in the quest for more strength . Some adjustments are subtle and require little more than a change in hand position. I'm Coming Home (To Carbs) - Born Fitness
Before anyone cared what I had to say about fitness, I was a guy (formerly fat) that didn’t really understand food. I grew up in Northbrook, IL, and experienced a typical suburban upbringing, complete with home-cooked meals. My mom’s cooking nurtured a love of all food, but I had a special soft spot for baked goods: brownies, cookies, and Rice Krispie treats. I ate those carb-loaded treats and became fat, gooey, and slow. And in my case, maybe all those carbs even stunted my growth. (Wait, let’s not start that rumor.)
6 Moves for a Stronger Neck
Barbell deadlifts are great trap and upper-back builders since they recruit the muscles of the entire body and increase the release of natural anabolic hormones, like testosterone. However, to eliminate skinny-neck syndrome and protect against injury you’ll need to add some direct work to target the muscles. Build functional strength, prevent injury, and improve posture to get the most out of training (and life) with this six-move neck workout.
Healthy Tip of the Day
During exercise, recovery is an essential component that enables the body to adapt to the stress created by exercise, helps restore muscle glycogen and allows for repair of body tissue.
Romanian Deadlift: The King of Posterior Training
A lot of people unknowingly create serious muscular imbalances between the anterior chain and posterior chain (the posterior chain is made up of the muscles on the back side of the body—hamstrings, glutes, back). A large proportion of leg exercises you see performed in the gym — squat and leg press, for example — are very quad dominant and, therefore, anterior chain moves. These people add some seated leg curls to their programs and think they’re sufficiently hitting the posterior chain. Note even close.
Acts 29 Removes Mars Hill, Asks Mark Driscoll To Step Down and Seek Help
It is with a mix of sadness and relief to see that Acts 29 has taken these actions. We hope and pray that the call for Mark Driscoll to step down from ministry is heeded. We would therefore rather wait and withdraw our plans to file new charges if he steps down, or file them in due course if he chooses to ignore the call of the Acts 29 board. We are in prayer for Mark and his family. We pray that he will find comfort, restoration, and hope in the Christ that he loves. We are committed to love him well and stand ready to support him and his family through these difficult days. We echo the call of the Acts 29 board.
Leg Workout for King Pins
Place your back against a wall with your feet about 1 foot from it, spaced hip-width apart. Squat until your knees reach a 90-degree angle and hold the position for 15-30 seconds. Slide up a couple of inches to form a 105-degree angle at your knees and hold for 15-30 seconds. Slide up again to a 120-degree angle and hold for 15-30 seconds. Push your back against the wall during each hold. Stand and rest. This is one set.

Fighter Diet News, by Pauline Nordin: Get Buff, Get Lean
Warp Speed Six Pack
HOW IT WORKS Your core (the abs and lower-back muscles that work in conjunction with them) is complex. In addition to bending your torso forward, as in a situp, it also straightens and extends your spine— as well as twisting your torso and hips and stabilizing your body. Unless you train all these functions, you won’t develop your core completely. To help you forge the strongest, most defined core possible, we’ve put together three different circuits of three moves each that work the core from all angles. You’ll do the exercises without rest in between, which raises your heart rate and accelerates fat loss — after all, you won’t be able to see your abs if they’re covered in fat. Just tack these circuits onto the end of your normal workouts.
Flex Wheeler Factoids
Kenneth “Flex” Wheeler was born in Fresno, California, on August 23, 1965, about a month before the inaugural Mr. Olympia in New York City. At age 19, he won the light-heavyweight class at the 1985 AAU Teen Mr. America before switching to NPC events in order to graduate to the IFBB ranks. His overall record as a pro — winning half of his contests — assures his entry into the Hall of Fame in this, his first year of eligibility. Indeed, there are many who would argue that Wheeler should have won the event that began in the year of his birth.
Ask Men's Fitness: Why Do I Wake Up Craving Crappy Food?
"I wake up in the morning craving greasy food. It’s the first thought to crystallize in my mind. Is this common, and what can I do about it?" —Charlie C., Nashville, TN Your cravings are perfectly normal, and they aren’t coming from nowhere. If you wake up dreaming of bacon , you’ve likely enjoyed more than a few bacon-heavy breakfasts. It was probably a positive experience, or the “neurological reward of a rush of calories,” says Susan B. Roberts, Ph.D., professor of nutrition and psychiatry at Tufts University in Boston. You want to reproduce that rush, thus the craving. To get rid of it, you have to replace it with a new craving. Roberts says two weeks is usually enough time to establish a new habit. Wake up to something delicious but healthy, like an egg-white and spinach whole- wheat wrap, and with enough time you’ll be craving that instead. Six Moves for a Shredded Six-Pack
Ah the six-pack. The goal of most every fitness enthusiast. A tight, lean, shredded stomach not only looks great, but also feels great and builds more confidence. Whether you're hitting the beach or hangin' by the pool, a chiseled midsection is something we all strive to strut. Unfortunately, not everyone is willing to put in the time and effort to build this work of art. For those that do however, the rewards are well worth the struggle.
5 Rowing Workouts to Get You Ripped
A great non-weight-bearing exercise machine, a rowing machine uses both your upper- and lower-body muscles to increase cardiovascular conditioning. Since you’re using your entire body, targeted muscle soreness is unlikely. Also known as an “erg,” a rowing machine is one of the most effective pieces of fitness equipment for burning fat and improving conditioning. Try these five unique rowing workouts designed by Eric Salvador, C.P.T. and head instructor of The Fhitting Room, to replace those tedious cardio sessions.

6 Gluten-Filled Foods That Are Good For You
All it took was one major study that showed that gluten intolerance was, in fact, a real issue for the entire world (it seems like it, doesn't it?) to go on a gluten-free diet. Peter Gibson, a professor of gastroenterology at Monash University and director of the GI unit at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, conducted that study in 2011 and has since revisited his findings with a more aggressive and controlled approach. The second time around, Gibson found the opposite of his initial study: Subjects reported gastrointestinal distress without any clear physical cause. These findings show that gluten was not the root of the problem, but that gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity might actually be psychological.

Mind Over Muscle: Your One-Rep Max Mental Checklist
Getting angry is a "to each his own" type of process. I can't offer you a step-by-step primer on rousing your inner beast to let loose on a barbell. I can, however, recommend that you find a dark place in your psyche and provoke it. This provocation coincides with ramping up your mental intensity lever. The combination turns aggression into applied performance.
5 Super Strength Boosters
Perhaps you’ve set your heart on getting stronger this year. You’ve got your lifting straps, your weight belt and have trained your eye on the squat rack. But if you are, you know, human and stuff, strength is a gradual pursuit where the addition of weight to the bar comes slowly…sometimes, frustratingly so. But you don’t have to fully surrender to the pace of your innate physiology.

BUILD BIG PECS ONE ANGLE AT A TIME WITH THESE PRESS VARIATIONS
When designing a workout to take advantage of multiple bench settings, the barbell bench press is the first to go because the bars and benches are fixed in one position. But that still leaves you with dumbbell presses and Smith machine presses—both rely on incline or decline adjustable benches. You can take the same approach with your dumbbell flyes. If you prefer pulleys, change the height of the pulleys on a cable apparatus to alter the angle of pull from one set to the next.
Advantages of the Dumbbell Bench Press
You’ll need at least a few weeks before you can use 80 to 85 percent of the 260 pounds: 105 to 100 pounds per dumbbell. Although 50 percent of 260 pounds is 130 pounds, bench-pressing a pair of 130-pound dumbbells is much harder than benching a 260-pound barbell. The 80 to 85 percent, divided into two, is a fair approximation per dumbbell, generally speaking, for comparing the two variations in terms of effort level, rep speed, range of motion and rep count.
3 Fats That Can Help You Lose Weight
Once deemed the ultimate health pariah, dietary fat has mercifully experienced a renaissance. Research continues to show that, without it, you have a fat chance (pun intended) of reaching optimal health. And for the physique-minded, there are some fats that appear to improve fitness and help obliterate that doughy stuff covering up your six-pack. These three groups of fats, which can be obtained in the grocery store and the supplement counter, are not to be taken lightly.

Build More Home-Grown Muscle
One popular misconception (read: excuse) for people who train at home is that you really can't add any serious mass without the benefit of the fancy equipment and unlimited poundages of your local gym. Because of that, they resign themselves to a life of lesser workouts. "I'll just do what I can," they rationalize. "But I don't expect to really gain any muscle." Well, we have good news - and a bit of a wake-up call - for these gloomy trainers: You can drastically impact your overall body composition training at home. All you need is a barbell, a few dumbbells and the will to push yourself a little harder. These four techniques can be employed at home and will pay big dividends in the long run.

Great bodybuilders possess a special combination of good genetics and a strong work ethic. Not only does Rhoden have both, he was fortunate enough to pick soccer as his first sport at the tender age of 5 in his native Jamaica. Having three brothers who also played soccer competitively made it even easier for him to continue to play up until college. He attributes much of his leg shape and strength to his years on the soccer field and kicking the ball around the yard with his brothers. Although his legs have always been a standout body part, Rhoden continues refining their shape and size every year.

The Lift Doctor: Better Posture for Heavy Lifting
For the Deadlift – You won’t be able to get into a good position before you ever pull the weight. Having forward shoulders will unlock the straight (neutral) position of the entire torso and head that you want and set you up for a potential rounded back once you start pulling on the bar. The better position you can start an exercise, the more likely you’ll stay in that good position throughout the entire execution of the lift.
