Sagittarius Horoscope for Saturday, August 9, 2014

Saturday, August 9, 2014 - Although you have recently felt the expansive power of optimistic Jupiter, you might realize that all is not rosy in the kingdom today. You don't like being brought back down to earth by somber Saturn, but it's nearly impossible to remain confident when you experience a setback on your path. Don't fight what you cannot change; retreat long enough to regain solid footing. Take the necessary steps to stabilize your life now; the pace is likely to speed up soon and you will want to be ready to race forward as soon as reality gives you the green light.

28-Days-to-Lean Meal Plan

You'’re training hard every day with your program, going heavy on the weights and sweating up a storm with cardio . Newsflash: While that'’s critical to your ultimate success, that'’s just not enough for you to lose the fat you want to. To reach your get-lean goal, you must also follow a get-lean diet. Why? Even if you work out hard for an hour every day, that still leaves 23 more hours for you to wreck all your hard work in the gym with just one slip-up: a measly handful of chips, a beer with the guys or a burger at lunch. Diet is a huge, so to speak, part of the fat-loss equation. It's the backbone of your entire plan, the foundation of a hard body. Bodybuilding nutrition consultant Jim Juge says nutrition determines your success or failure, plain and simple. "The diet is 65% of what you need to get in shape,"” he says. Juge would know, as he'’s helped countless dedicated people reach their goals, from achieving their best body ever to placing first in bodybuilding competitions. You've got 28 days to get to your goal, so we've recruited Juge to help you every step of the way.

Arnold Goes Undercover at Gold's Gym

Arnold Schwarzenegger is two-for-two this week when it comes to trying on new personas (and wigs). In another hilarious turn, Arnold goes "undercover" as Howard, a trainer-turned-regional manager at Gold's Gym in Venice Beach in which he surprises unwitting gym-goers with motivation and training advice.

Best Pre-Workout Foods

Fruit smoothies Fruit smoothies are high in carbohydrates and high-quality protein. Better yet: “They’re easy to consume and are rapidly digested,” says Burke. Try blending 1/2 cup plain, low-fat yogurt, 1/2 cup fruit and 1 cup fruit juice. “People tend to skip fruit and other foods that are high in carbs,” says Villacorta, “but protein doesn’t break down fast enough to become fuel for a workout. The carbs from fruit break down quickly and the protein is used later to prevent muscle damage .”

11 Signs Your Trainer is Full of Crap

These things all chap our hides as editors/gym-goers, so we decided to check with some of our experts to see what other suspect trainer behavior is worth taking stock of. Because for the people out there that require a little bit of guidance, great care should be taken that they are kept safe and that they are getting what they’re paying for.

Workout Finisher: The Triceps Exercises to Triple Your Size

Stuck with noodle arms? Your triceps account for about three-quarters of your arm, so it's about time to put some real work in on them. Adding these finishers to the end of your workouts will give them the beating they need. Now watch them grow!

Smith Machine Trap Training

There are only so many ways to hit your upper traps. Sure, they get worked with pretty much any shoulder exercise (overhead presses, lateral raises, upright rows), but isolating the upper traps is usually a matter of doing one of the few variations of shrugs you’re familiar with. if you’re tired of the standard barbell or dumbbell shrug, move over to the Smith machine. Keeping the bar in front of you is one way to do it, but we like the behind-the-back variation. It helps keep your shoulders back to engage other back muscles and improve posture, it helps build thicker upper traps (the primary purpose of the move), and, as a bonus, it might just keep you from getting bored with your current free-weight trap routine.

Here are some fresh picks, pulled straight from the playlists of the M&F editorial staff.

5 Smarter Ways to Do Cardio

Many guys in the gym lack specificity within their cardio program. When it comes to lifting weights, they have detailed notes of sets, reps, personal records, and arm growth progressions. For cardio, they slough off the numbers and progressions in favor of 20-30 minutes at a moderate intensity. Your cardio training should be approached with the same precision and details as a well-executed weight training program. By paying closer attention to intensity levels and duration, gym-goers can reap the benefits of an intense session without wasting away their day slogging miles on the treadmill.

Mind Over Muscle: Your One-Rep Max Mental Checklist

Getting angry is a "to each his own" type of process. I can't offer you a step-by-step primer on rousing your inner beast to let loose on a barbell. I can, however, recommend that you find a dark place in your psyche and provoke it. This provocation coincides with ramping up your mental intensity lever. The combination turns aggression into applied performance.

6 Gluten-Filled Foods That Are Good For You

All it took was one major study that showed that gluten intolerance was, in fact, a real issue for the entire world (it seems like it, doesn't it?) to go on a gluten-free diet. Peter Gibson, a professor of gastroenterology at Monash University and director of the GI unit at Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, conducted that study in 2011 and has since revisited his findings with a more aggressive and controlled approach. The second time around, Gibson found the opposite of his initial study: Subjects reported gastrointestinal distress without any clear physical cause. These findings show that gluten was not the root of the problem, but that gluten intolerance or gluten sensitivity might actually be psychological.

Lean Legs Pak 2 (Athlete)

Fighter Diet Fighter Diet is the best lifestyle to get lean and stay lean while building muscle. But there's a time when you need to realize that as long as you fight for an ultra lean physique your muscle gains will stagnate! How come? Do you really have to get fat when you crave more muscle mass? No! But you do need to allow your body a little reservoir. It's simple: To build muscle you must train hard to generate a response from your body: "oh wow! What's going on here? If I don't grow stronger and add more size I'll die!!". That's the reaction you want from your body. This is only step 1 though. Step 2 is providing nutrients and fuel for your muscles to use. It's critical you have enough fuel or you won't grow. softer abs but still visible Most people see all in black or white as in '

Derek Fisher’s Top 4 Dunks (feat. Bradley & Iverson)

There was a time when I thought 6’1 Derek Fisher was going to be a Robert Pack type point guard who would throw down power dunks on centers on a normal basis.  You might be thinking I’m crazy to say such a thing about the lefty coach of the Knicks but Fisher threw down a monster dunk in is his very first game with the Lakers.  During the rookie all-star game, he posterized (literally – it’s a poster in Slam Magazine) Allen Iverson.  The 5 x NBA champion even threw down a dunk on Shawn Bradley! Yeah, Yeah Bradley has been dunked on every player and his momma and that’s why ESPN even made a documentary about him getting dunked on.

The World's First "Smart" Commuter Bike

Ideal for daily commuters, the Vanmoof is a “pedelec” bike, which means it provides energy only while you’re pedaling (so you can also ride it just like a regular bicycle). Using a sensor mounted to the crank, the onboard computer system monitors your performance and provides supplemental power as needed, increasing your pedaling output by up to 80%. So, while everyone else is laboring away to make it up that hill—and showing up at the office drenched in sweat—you can cruise on by in comfort. 7 Ways to Be More Efficient on the Bike>>> Also important: The bike tops out at 17 mph. Why does that matter? Staying under 20 mph means the Electrified still qualifies as a bicycle and can be used in designated bike lanes without fear of getting a ticket. No traffic for you.

High Intensity Interval Training at Home

The workout on the next page is designed for use by the home trainee who wants a grueling, circuit-style session that won’t take long to complete. The idea here is to perform as many rounds of both exercises as possible – set seven rounds as an initial long-term goal – with minimal rest, breaking your previous record each week. Each exercise can be made either easier or harder by increasing or decreasing the number of steps in play.

19
Understanding Volume - Juggernaut Training Systems

Even though the concept of ‘volume’ isn’t so hard to understand, it is frequently misused. Simply calculating sets X reps X weight and calling one program high volume or low volume isn’t accurate. A more appropriate measure for your training would be ‘relative volume’, and the relative bit is the intensity of that rep scheme based on your max for that same rep scheme. Doing a warm up set of 135 X 10 has a higher ‘volume’ than doing a single at 1,000 lbs, so higher volume does not necessarily mean harder. And 135 X 10 or 225 X 10 often has a higher volume per set than most working sets in the 1-3 rep range. This is because warm up sets have a very low ‘relative volume’. So even though your volume was high on 135 X 10, since you could perform 135 X 30, there is no reason why light warm up sets should come into account for the volume. So when it comes time to track and program volume for an athlete, I propose only working sets count towards tracking volume. Now you ask what is a work set? I consider anything where I had 0-2 reps in the tank my work sets. If you did a set of 3, and could have performed 3 more reps, this may still have a great training purpose, but is not useful when figuring volume and comparing volume of sessions over a long period of time.

3 Fats That Can Help You Lose Weight

Once deemed the ultimate health pariah, dietary fat has mercifully experienced a renaissance. Research continues to show that, without it, you have a fat chance (pun intended) of reaching optimal health. And for the physique-minded, there are some fats that appear to improve fitness and help obliterate that doughy stuff covering up your six-pack. These three groups of fats, which can be obtained in the grocery store and the supplement counter, are not to be taken lightly.

You’ll never outgrow the bench dip. You can do it anywhere with any kind of equipment, or lack thereof, and it can be progressed indefinitely. But if you’re in the gym and you have a partner, you can use it to maximum effect with weighted bench dip dropsets.

Strengthen it: Attach light to medium resistance tubing to a door hinge, then stand with your left side to it, grasping the handle of the tubing with your right hand. Bend right arm at a 45-degree angle to your side (your elbow is at your hip and your forearm is at a 90-degree angle in a handshake position), then rotate your arm at the elbow, pulling the tubing out towards the right side without pulling your upper arm away from your body— like a door opening on a hinge. Next, stand with your right side towards the door hinge. With your right arm bent at a 45-degree angle next to your side, grasp the handle of the tubing with your right hand and rotate your arm at the elbow, pulling the handle in towards the center of your body. Repeat 10 to 12 times on each side, alternating sides for each set.

Foods That Prevent Hair Loss

Everyone loses hair each day, so there’s no need to freak out every time a few follicles trickle out. Hair is continuously growing, but, in turn, some strands reach their “old-age” and come out. Genetics, however, means some guys have fewer strands growing in to replace them. By the age of 35, two-thirds of American men will experience some level of hair loss, according to the American Hair Loss Association. But have no fear—nutritional deficiencies can contribute to increased hair loss by weakening hair shafts that cause breakage and slow re-growth of new hairs. This can potentially be reversed with the right diet. Len Glassman, a certified health nutritionist, trainer and owner of the Personal Best Training Center , offers up the necessary nutrients that will keep the hairs on your head there longer. 9 Daily Habits That Make You Look Older>>>

Burn Baby Burn

Researchers took trained men and had them perform a traditional workout doing four sets of eight diferent exercises (bench press, leg press, leg curl, seated row, military press, biceps curl, triceps extension, and situp). A second group performed high-intensity training, using heavier weights and lower reps. The high-intensity workout was much shorter. The traditional workout took 52 minutes to complete, whereas the high-intensity workout took 22 minutes. They measured the men’s metabolic rate on two separate occasions, once before the workout and then again 22 hours after it was finished. At the end of the study, training volume was much higher for the traditional resistance-training group (17,273 pounds vs. 8,536 pounds).

MRI Immune Fit at Bodybuilding.com

If we, as competitive athletes, are truly serious about achieving maximum results, we must carefully consider the integrity of our immune systems. Research shows that high intensity training may temporarily weaken the immune system, which can negatively impact our training potential and athletic gains. Fortunately for us, the cornerstone ingredient in IMMUNE FIT™, Wellmune WGP®, has been clinically demonstrated in athletes to support immunity. It works by enhancing key immune cells that bolster the body’s defense mechanisms. This is really good news. A strong immune system does more than maintain health – it also helps us maintain energy, vitality and mental clarity during periods of physical activity so that nothing will slow us down.*

Grenade Hydra 6 at Bodybuilding.com

When it comes to whey protein, it’s simple, science tells us very clearly that the higher the peak in our blood essential amino acid levels, the greater the signal to the muscles to start the process of protein synthesis (muscle building) [1]*. And no protein can crank up essential amino acid levels to a higher peak than whey protein isolate [2]*. But whey protein may not be enough on its own. Several studies suggest that whey stops delivering amino acids after about 3 1/2 hours, whereas the other major milk protein, casein, not only delivers its amino acids for longer but has been suggested to be superior for supporting muscle growth and reducing muscular breakdown.[2]* So casein’s ability to act like a “drip-feed” and constantly deliver amino acids to the blood over at least seven hours has been suggested over and over again to be anti-catabolic (so it prevents muscle breakdown in addition to supporting growth)*. Clearly, casein has advantages that whey protein alone cannot match.[2 ]
